Genesis 1;27- man was made in three perfect image of God. If man was made in the image of God. Then man must be spirit first, with a soul- personality, mind-consciousness and unconsciousness and will, man lives and functions In the physical world with a body.
God is a spirit- John 4:24
2 Corinthians 5;17-if any man is in Christ he is anew creation, old things are pass away, behold all things have become new
Good morning beloved. I trust everyone is well in Jesus name. God is our saviour and be rest assured that all things will work together for our good. Amen
My message this morning is a simple yet one that is so dear to God’s heart. A couple of weeks ago, God laid this today’s topic on my darling sister Abiola’s heart and she encouraged me to share it with the youth at the event she organized for them. As I prepared the message the Holy Spirit whispered that I should also share this with the group. I did not think much of it until i heard the Holy Spirit say it to me agin. So here we go…
What is salvation?
Salvation is the redeeming grace of God to deliver his children from eternal condemnation. The bible tell us ‘there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit’-Romans 8:1. That grace is the person of Jesus Christ, ‘the son of the living God-For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God’-Ephesians 2:8.
God brought about salvation because of his love for mankind-‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life’ -John 3:16.
God’s grace of salvation is always available to those who would receive it. No matter how deep you are in sin or how far you have fallen, his grace is sufficient. His grace is so vast that a man named Saul who for years persecuted Christians and even consented to the stoning to death of Stephen (the deacon) was a partaker of this amazing grace of God. He was arrested and redeemed by Jesus Christ on his way to Damascus to persecute and imprison Christians. In Fact Jesus called Paul a chosen vessel predestined for a divine purpose (Acts 9:15).
What is Purpose of Salvation?
We were saved so that we can have:
to be reunited with God through the Holy Spirit. Three spirit of man and the spirit of God unites at salvation. Believe and accept Jesus. The journey to wholeness begins with been saved but to be completely made whole is a process.
it takes the Holy Spirit to work on the person through a process of sanctification and inner cleansing of our believes and formed thoughts from the years we were living for ourselves.
you therefore must be willing and submit to the Holy Spirit to Do his cleansing work.
-a close and meaningful relationship with God-Exodus 3:12
-eternal life and not be destroyed forever-John 3:16
God also saved us so that we can be shown how to live in this present world. Jesus Christ was sent as a role model for every believer- John 14:6
Salvation was also for us to know the power of God-‘That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; -Philippians 3:10
Who is a genuinely saved Christian?1.A genuinely saved Christian is someone who after he or she has had an encounter with Jesus, is willing or desires to let go of their former ways of living.
2.A genuinely saved Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit. The person is aware of the power that dwells in them (1 John 4:4). The spirit of God the father and his son Jesus Christ. A saved Christian is also someone who is able to discern the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17). Without the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer, you can do nothing (John 15:5). The job of the Holy Spirit is to comfort and to teach every believer how to walk the Christian walk of faith, ‘the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you’-John 14:26.
3.A genuinely saved believer according to the bible does not walk according to the flesh but by the spirit. They do things according to the spirit and the fruits of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. -Galatians 5:22-23. On the other hand is also the attributes of people who walk not according to the spirit but to the flesh ‘Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God’-Galatians 5:19-21. The bible states that the flesh and the spirit are always opposing to one another. If we walk according to the flesh then we cannot claim to be genuinely saved. And according to Apostle Paul such people cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Therefore, we must examine ourselves to see if we are harbouring any work/works of the flesh.
4.A genuinely saved Christian win souls for the kingdom of God. For that was why our master and Lord Jesus Christ came to the world- to redeem people from eternal condemnation. A saved Christian is a disciple of Jesus and is expected to do the work of the master, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. -John 14:12
This was one area God spoke to me about that a lot of us need to improve on. As he revealed to me in a vision- ‘I saw a gas cooker lit with fire and a pot filled with water placed on the gas but the water on the gas even though it had been there for several hours, did not get to full boiling point neither was it hot. It remained the same, cold’. God ministered to me that we must all endeavour to share our faith with others at every opportunity we get, our heart should be set ablaze and always ready to preach the gospel.
For some of us if we can not evangelise to others due to one reason or another, we should support ministries that do so now more than ever. However, he would Prefer we do this ourselves. There was one morning he woke me up with the word, ‘the labourers are few’- which can be found in Matthew 9:37. The Holy Spirit said we are way too consumed by our own need and desires that we have neglected one of the greatest commandment given by Jesus-But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. -Matthew 6:33. The early believers especially his apostles of Jesus Christ as soon as they were filled with the Holy Spirit, they began to preach the gospel and they prophesied. Paul in Acts 9:17-20, after the Holy Spirit came upon him, the bible says he immediately began to preach to others. Peter also did the same in Acts 2:1-4. Lynxx the famous Nigerian rapper is another that came to mind, I remember a lot of people began to wonder whether his account was hacked the moment the content on his page changed.
Basically, you can’t have an encounter with Jesus Christ, claim to be genuinely saved and remain the same. You cannot be lukewarm, you can spend one minute engaging in the desires of the flesh and the next minute raising your hands to sing songs of worship. ‘So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth’-Revelation 3:16
God knows it is very challenging to be in the evil and perverse world and that was why he gavr us the Holy Spirit to guide us in our daily work with him, but we must also be willing to allow the Holy Spirit to be our teacher.
How can you be a genuinely saved Christian?
-Surrender your lives totally to God and make the decision to let go of your former ways and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in all things. Are you are easily hurt? Easily frustrated or unforgiving?
-A genuinely saved Christian do things according to the spirit and not by the flesh (Galatians 5).
-Someone who pray at all times-Pray without ceasing. -1 Thessalonians 5:17. It is in the place of prayer that we get a lot of the revelations on how to live daily. Prayer also helps to build our faith and we renew our minds in the place of prayer- Matthew 6
-Someone who meditates on the word of God- This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. -Joshua 1:8. Studying the bible is a commandment from God and every genuinely saved believer must study the word of God, else they are living in disobedience and it is not a personality of the spirit. Faith comes by hearing- Romans 10:17
-A genuinely saved believer has faith in God ‘But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him’ -Hebrews 11:6. A genuinely saved Christian does not doubt God and does not live in fear. Though she fears God but is not living in torment.
Benefits of salvation?
There are so many benefits for the children of God, as it is written, ‘Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. -1 Corinthians 2:9. God is a good God and he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
-He always has benefits his store for his people. Deuteronomy 28 anyone?
-As a believer, you maybe gifted with one or more of the gifts of the Holy Spirit-But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; -To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. -Corinthians 12:7-11
-You excel where others failed and you are empowered for greatness. Stephen was so filled with wisdom and debated with powerful well educated Pharisees even though he had no education. Same with Peter and other disciples of Jesus Christ. You source is divine and from the Holy Spirit.
-God becomes your burden bearer- From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. -Galatians 6:17
-You enjoy the peace of God- John 14:27
All this is only possible with a willing heart and one that genuinely desires to let go of all their formers ways and wishes to make God their Lord and saviour. John 3:16 says that ‘whosoever believes’, This tells us the grace of salvation is to those who believe and will allow Jesus to be their Lord and saviour. Therefore, commitment and willingness is required. Believe and you will not perish. Those who believe in God, and are saved by him keep all his commandments and he will grant the grace to overcome the temptation but we must submit totally-Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. -James 4:7
This morning let us renew our minds before God.
First, Let us thank God for the grace to be alive on this beautiful Tuesday morning. We are alive only by his grace alone. Worship and praise his holy name.
Repent of every known and unknown sin. Please read Galatians 5, the fruits of the spirit and the works of the flesh and ask for mercy accordingly.
Ask for the grace to forsake sin at all times.
Ask for a fresh fall of the Holy Spirit and ask that a new and right Spirit is renewed within you.
Please intercede for others as you pray these prayers. Your family members, colleagues that are yet to be saved.
Make a decision today to win a soul or at least speak to others about Jesus Christ.
Spend the day mediating on the word and praying in the spirit.
May the grace of God to forsake son fall upon each and everyone of us that reads this and may we all make it to heaven in Jesus name. Shalom.
