Righteousness makes our Spirit alive

Bible Reading : Romans chapter 8, and Psalm 34

Bible text: ‘’If Christ lives in you, though your [natural] body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness [which He provides].”

“And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.”

A couple of nights ago the Lord led me to read Romans chapter 8, as I read I could not get pass the Bible text above and God gave me clarity about it. Basically he taught me 3 things from these verses 1) Sin makes an individual die a spiritual death, a physical death and lead to eternal condemnation 2) Righteous keeps our spirit alive, and it leads to eternal life,3) it’s is only by the help of the Holy spirit that we can live a life of righteousness effectively.

Righteousness, what does it mean?

Righteousness has been given different definitions, however, from my examination or the Bible It means obeying Godly principles. Father Abraham’s obedience to God in the book of Genesis was counted as righteousness. Faith in God to do is will is another form of righteousness- “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed in a way that awakens more faith]. As it is written and forever remains written, “T HE JUST and UPRIGHT SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.””

If you obey God’s instructions and have faith in God you are working in righteousness. However, we all know that there are many commandments and instruction God gives to us through his word, in prayer and even through dreams.

I honestly believe most people would love to keep their spirit alive and let their life burn for God however, in a world that is filled with many distractions and life issues that makes us weary and overwhelmed it can be challenging to continually keep our spiritual man charged daily.

However, if our Lord Jesus Christ who is the first born among many brothers and sisters of faith God walk in total obedience I believe we can also do the same by the help of the Holy Spirit. We see that Jesus Christ always took our time to pray, he separated himself from the crowd often when he gets overwhelmed and needed to talk to his father (Matthew 5:1). We also must be intentional about spending time with God daily. He must come first before all else in our life. We should make out time to pray, mediate on the word and feed our spirit with healthy nutritional food or the word.

As Christ followers we should not live a life of sin or follow the impulses of the flesh but we must pursue righteousness which gives life to the spirit and leads to eternal life- “If Christ lives in you, though your [natural] body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness [which He provides].”

Beloved sisters there is only one way that guarantees eternal life and it is by living a life of righteousness by the help of the Holy Spirit.

However, there is only one person that can led us to live this life of righteousness effectively and as we ought and that is the person of the Holy Spirit- “for if you are living according to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living] by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever. For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

ROMANS 8:13-14 AMP

To be led by the spirit of God daily you need to get acquainted with God and know him intimately. Knowing him helps you to recognize his voice, and discern daily what you need to do about every situation- “But the spiritual man [the spiritually mature Christian] judges all things [questions, examines and applies what the Holy Spirit reveals], yet is himself judged by no one [the unbeliever cannot judge and understand the believer’s spiritual nature].”

Last week during our evangelism outreach the Lord led me to tell people to go back to studying the word intimately. He further revealed we are not just to study the word but obey and do what it tells us to do- “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.”

Do you want to become successful spiritually, physically and in all areas of your life? Do you desire to live a life  of righteousness which leads to eternal life? Do you want to keep your spiritual life alive and put to death the works of the flesh? Beloved, I encourage you today to get into the word of God daily and do what it tells us to do. I encourage you to begin to pray and speak to God daily and you would instantly notice the peace and joy that comes with true salvation. Our spirit man becomes alive  by heeding and following the leading of the Holy Spirit daily- “I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.”

Remember always this scripture verse ‘The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous [those with moral courage and spiritual integrity] And His ears are open to their cry.”

Practical ways to spending more time with God:

-Determine to wake up 15 minutes earlier than you normally would and spent time in prayer.

-For beginners or people trying to get back to the word, take a verse or two a day and mediate on the word of God. Increase to a chapter as you become stronger spiritually.

-Practice some of what you might have learnt from the word of God, e.g forgiveness, giving, or showing kindness to others.

-daily thank God for life and little things you were able to accomplish, this opens up the pathway to receive more.

Today in the name of Jesus Christ I decree that your spirit becomes alive.

Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to pray and study the word

Pray that God will teach you daily through his word practical ways to live a life of righteousness.

Pray for the grace to discern the voice of the Holy Spirit and to do what he tells you to do.
